Great Books Summer Program
Great Books is a residential academic program for students entering grades 6-12 who love literature, philosophy, and debate. We also have a Writer’s Workshop program for aspiring writers. Our programs give students a taste of university life on the campuses of Amherst, Stanford, Northwestern,
Oxford, and Trinity College in Dublin. In addition, our newest program, "Tales of the Sea: A Tall Ship Adventure" blends our traditional literary focus with the opportunity to learn to sail aboard a tall ship on the coast of Maine.
Great Books uses Shared Inquiry, derived from Socrates’ method of teaching by asking questions. We engage with enduring texts of literature and philosophy to discover and explore the great human issues and questions. Students grow critical thinking and close reading skills, participate in lively civil discourse, and learn how to identify and articulate their ideas effectively.
